607,929. Cylinders. WESLAKE, H. Dec. 11, 1945, No. 80/47. Divided out of 604,997. [Class 7 (ii)] In a combustion chamber having overhead inlet and exhaust valves 11, 12, a mask 14 on the inlet valve causes the incoming mixture to swirl as shown by the arrows round the peripheral wall 16 and past the sparking-plug socket 17 which may be arranged symmetrically as shown or adjacent to the exhaust valve. The wall 20 may be flat or concave and the piston face may be dished. The edge of the mask 14 is level with the lower wall of the inlet passage when the valve is closed and its inner face is concave to direct the charge when the valve is open. Specification 604,997 is referred to and Specification 565,394 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
