Abstract
607,325. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. Jan. 30, 1946, No. 2985. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1945. [Class 74(ii)] The need for a slot in the carrier ring 3 is eliminated by mounting the yarn lever 1 beneath the ring, the lever being held in its innermost operative position by a spring 7, Fig. 1 (not shown), secured at one end to an adjustable collar on a screw 5 and at the other end to a suitably positioned pin 8 on the lever; the screw passes through a slot 4 in the lever, offset from, but parallel to, the lever axis. When the yarn lever is withdrawn by a bellcrank acting on tail 18, it first slides radially to a first inoperative position, being guided by stops 12, 14. If withdrawal is continued, stop 14 rides off surface 15 on to a sloping surface 20 and the elever pivots about the screw 5 to a second inoperative position, Fig. 1 (not shown), in which the yarn can be taken in the hook 30 of a projected blade 26: this blade is thereupon retracted by a spring 31 to cause the yarn to be cut by the sharpened edge 29 of a leaf spring 28 and to be clamped between blade 26 and a coacting blade 23 by the pressure of the leaf spring.
