Abstract

606,581. Universal joints. BOOLE, R., and RUBBER BONDERS, Ltd. Dec. 1, 1945, No. 32525. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A shaft coupling comprises at least two rigid members coupled by rubber under static shear stress bonded to them. The driving and driven members 1, 2 have bonded to them bodies of rubber 3, 4 to the peripheries of which are bonded metal rings 5, 6 which are displaced axially towards each other and secured to a rigid ring 12 by the screws 13, the opposing end thrusts on the members 1, 2 being taken by a ball 11 in contact with the ball thrust bearings 9, 10 secured in the ends of the members. In modifications, means are provided to allow axial, radial and angular deflections of the coupling, either separately or conjointly.
