[Classes 51(i) and 51(ii)] In a rotary kiln, at least three burners 15 disposed below the axis of the kiln in a plane parallel to the surface of the treated material are provided with an individually adjustable supply of fuel and air through pipes 19 leading from a valve box 18 and with secondary air through a valve box 22 and pipes 23 delivering tangentially into junction boxes 24 at each burner.
