Abstract

777,360. Belt tensioning means. T. M. M. (RESEARCH), Ltd. Nov. 17, 1955 [Aug. 30, 1954], No. 25144/54. Class 120 (2). In a textile spinning, doubling, twisting or winding machine having two separate groups of spindles, the spindles of each group being individually driven by a motor through a common driving belt, two rotary elements, over which the respective driving belts are passed, are mounted with capability of movement in a direction such that tension may be exerted in the driving belts and are attached to a common belt, strap or other flexible connecting element which is passed around a pulley or its equivalent attached to a flexible link, to which tension is applied by a counterweighted arm acting through the medium of a pawl and ratchet mechanism, that the tensions in the respective driving belts are maintained constantly at the same tension. In the arrangement shown diagrammatically there are two independent electric motors 10, 11, which drive the spindles of different tiers through belts 101, 111, passed around respective motor pulleys 102, 112. The motors are capable of movement in a direction in which tension is exerted in the driving belts as indicated by arrows A and B and each is attached to one end of a flexible element 12 which passes about stationary guide pulleys 13, 14 and 15 and the sheave 16 of a single pulley block, to the axial 17 of which is connected to the end of a flexible link 18. The link 18 is wound about a roller 19 pivotally mounted on the frame 20 and carries a ratchet wheel 21. An arm 22 bearing an adjustable counterweight 23 is freely mounted on the axial 191 of the roller 19 and a pawl 221 on the arm 22 is arranged to engage the wheel 21. The arrangement is such that the tension in the link 18 is transmitted through the sheave 16 to the element 12, applying equal forces to the motors 10 and 11 and thereby an equal tension to each of driving belts 101, 111. The degree of tension in the belts 101, 111 may be varied by adjusting the position of the arm 22 in relation to the roller 19.
