Abstract

6 0 1,8 5 5. Heating by dielectric loss. LAWSON, D. I., and PYE, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1945, No. 26251. [Class 39(iii)] Applicator, which may be in the form of a pressing iron, for high - frequency dielectric heating, comprises two electrodes 1 with teeth 2, held in spaced relationship by a handle member 3. The electrodes are disposed with the teeth interspaced and slightly overlapping in the transverse direction so as to ensure that the most intense field will be produced along the line joining the end regions of the teeth. Two resonant transmission line members 4 are connected to the electrodes 1 and are tuned by a slider member 5, high frequency power being supplied by cables 6. An alternative arrangement described is in the form of a pressing iron having a variable condenser incorporated for tuning in place of the slider member 5.
