Abstract

<PICT:0600751/IV (c)/1> Textile materials are continuously wetted with a dyebath containing a vat dye, a reducing agent and caustic alkali, subjected to the action of an electric current at a voltage between 6 and 120 while passing between iron positive and nickel negative electrodes spaced apart a distance greater than the thickness of the material, and then subjected to oxidation to re-oxidize the reduced dyestuff. The amount of caustic alkali in the bath may be more than, and the amount of reducing agent less than, the amount used in a conventional dyebath. Using the apparatus described, the fabric C is passed into the dyebath 101, over the iron positive roller 22, halfway round roller 25, which is preferably made of rubber, and on to and halfway round the negative nickel roller 30. The fabric is then passed to oxidizing and finishing baths in the usual manner. Apparatus is described in Fig. 6 (not shown) for the treatment of textile material in skein form.
