Abstract

599,952. Automatic firearms. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES SOC. ANON. Oct. 11, 1945, No. 26567. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1944. [Class 92 (ii)] The release mechanism for the locking mechanism of the breech-block of a firearm is effected by an element 16 carried by the breech casing, and the rod is actuated by an element such as member 13 carried by the barrel 10 and acted upon by gases from the barrel, the elements acting on one another by a pushing action, but being such that when at rest they do not prevent rotation of the barrel about its longitudinal axis relatively to the breech casing 11. In the construction shown, a single member 13 is guided at 14 and 15 on the barrel, the rear end of the member extending to the rear at least as far as the rear face of the guide 15; by this means the element 16 cannot enter the guide and thus prevent rotation of the barrel when the latter is to be removed. In a modification, a single port from the barrel is fed to a pair of members 13 symmetrically arranged with respect to the barrel axis and each co-operating with a separate rod 16. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a construction, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), in which two pistons are arranged symmetrically with respect to the barrel, the cylinders as shown being formed in the body of the barrel. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
