Abstract
598,001. Pistons. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and COMERY, P. D. Aug. 28, 1945, No. 22041. [Class 122 (i)] In a piston for a pneumatic tyre inflator adapted to be secured to a hollow stem 5 and mounted for reciprocation in a barrel 1, the piston comprises the inner end of the stem 5 which is of cup-shaped formation and has an outwardly-directed flange 11 adapted to engage with a re-entrant groove 21 formed in a washer 15, a depending tail 23 of which fits into the end of the stem 5. The cup-shaped formation is a hollow metal pressing spot welded to the stem 5, and the washer is of oil-resistant synthetic resin such as polyvinyl chloride. The washer may be moulded separately or to the flange 11 in situ. The rear face of the washer abuts against a disc 13 which also engages the plunger spring 25.
