Abstract

595,351. Fluid-pressure servomotors. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd., and HEPPNER, F. A. M. July 21, 1942, No. 10212. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] Stalling of a turbine type air-compressor when running at low speeds is prevented by the opening of an air escape valve under the control of the ratio of the pressures obtaining at two separate points in the compressor. In Fig. 1, bellows devices 10, 11 are subjected externally to the pressure at an intermediate point S and the inlet or atmospheric pressure. They control the setting of a lever 9 which operates a leak valve 8 determining the pressure acting on a piston 3 which operates a leak valve 1. In Fig. 2, the bellows devices 22, 23 act upon a lever 31 held in a balanced position by radial springs 33. The position of the lever 31 determines the position of a servomotor 40 which operates a ring valve 19 controlling air outlets 18.
