Abstract

605,598. Two-part couplings; ceiling roses. BOYNTON, T. E., and WHIFFIN, E. C. Dec. 31, 1945, No. 35236. [Class 38 (i)] In a coupling, e.g. a ceiling rose, in which a plug 14 is adapted to co-operate with a socket 1 to form a bayonet-type connection, the plug carries pins 19 provided with spring contacts 25 which are inserted in slots 8 in the socket and moved to abut contacts 10 to complete the circuit between the plug and socket. The plug has a spigot 15 which revolves in an aperture 7 in the socket, thereby allowing the plug to be turned angularly to withdraw or insert it. The slots 8 in the socket have enlargements 9 which allow insertion of the contacts 25. A web 16 is provided on the plug to assist in turning it and has apertures 23 to retain the lamp leads. Each contact 10, Fig. 10, has a slot 11 with inclined tips 10b which engage and retain the contacts 25. The contacts 10 are bent as shown to fit in recesses in the socket body at the ends of the slots 8. A screwed cover 29 protects the coupling and may be provided with a smooth or screwed outlet 32 to receive a lamp bracket. The cover may be supported by the plug.
