[Class 7 (ii)] A cylinder block a has a separate block f having formed therein the valve seats c and carrying the valve guides d, and a separate head extending over the block f. The block f has flat surfaces resting on projections i at either end and a further flat surface pressed against a gasket g by screws passing through end flanges and rods o used for fixing the inlet and exhaust manifolds. Grooves p 'for the gasket may be provided on either of the blocks a, f. The block f may be sub-divided in a long engine, or duplicated where valves are located on both sides of the cylinders. It is hollow and connected to the water circulating system.
