Abstract

592,727. Connecting-rods. DANSIE, C. E., and BARTHOLOMEW, F. C. Mav 28, 1945, No. 13302. [Class 122 (i)] A connecting -rod comprises channel-section longitudinal halves 7 each having at one end a hemi-spherical head 4 and at the other end a quarter-cylindrical portion 8 so that when the halves are brought together a hollow connecting rod is formed having a spherical small end and a hemi-cylindrical big end. The spherical head is secured in a hemi-spherical recess in the solid crown 3a of the piston 3 by a ring 5 formed of two semi-circular parts screwed to the piston head and providing a concave recess for the end of the rod. Lubricating oil from the big end enters the hollow of the rod through an aperture 9, is distributed to the piston through passages 10 and drains back through bores 12.
