Abstract
590,913. Variable-pitch propellers. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd., and CROWHURST, J. A. Feb. 1, 1945, No. 2586. [Class 114] A variable-pitch propeller, hydraulically actuated, is provided with mechanical stops to limit pitch variation when under automatic control, but such stops can be removed at will to allow movement to " feather " or reverse pitch positions. The blades are rotated by the piston 12 which carries rollers 24 engaging inclined slots in a fixed sleeve 22 and a rotating sleeve 20 engaging an axially mounted bevel gear 18, which in turn rotates the bevels 28 on the blade roots. Stops on bevel 18 engage stops 34, 36 (Fig. 5) on rings 38, 40 corresponding to feathered and reverse pitch positions. Further stop rings 44 are also fitted, the stops 56, 58 on which engage a controllable stop member 50 which can-be withdrawn at will by applying high-pressure fluid to the piston 68 against a return spring 72. The engaging stop surfaces are inclined to facilitate disengagement. Specification 505,077 is referred to.
