[Class 144 (i)] [Also in Group XXXII] A wheel and axle assembly for railway cars or tramcars comprises an axle 1 in two parts 2, 2<1> welded longitudinally at 3, to which a wheel disc 4 carrying a tyre 5 is welded directly at the enlargement 6. Alternatively, the axle may be in. more than two parts, welded longitudinally, or the axle may comprise single end parts each carrying a wheel united by welding to an intermediate part between the wheels.
