Abstract
589,871. Locks. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 13, 1944, No. 22371. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1943. [Class 44] Axially-moved tumblers 12, actuated by the insertion of a key 37, have deep slots 20 which, when aligned with a barrier 25, permit rotation of a plug 11 together with the key. The key is held in the lock by a pin 46 being forced into a hole 50, in the key, due to camming action of a groove 45 on the head 41 of the pin. When shallow slots 30 in the barrier, and one set of shallow slots 21 in the tumblers, are in alignment, the key plug may be rotated slightly (see Fig. 5), but it is then held by the barrier against further rotation. This renders the lock difficult to pick. The plug 11 and the barrier 25, may be inserted in the casing 10, as a unit, projections 28, which prevent any rotation of the barrier, sliding along a groove 35. A scalp plate 32 fits over the end of the plug 11. In place of the pin 46 for holding the key in the lock, a pivoted, or other type, detent may be used.
