Abstract

587,285. Heat-exchangers. SERCK RADIATORS, Ltd., and UPTON, H. E. Aug. 28, 1944, No. 16296. [Class 64 (iii)] A heat-exchanger, e.g., an engine lubricating oil cooler, comprises outer and inner concentric tubes a, b closed at one end; preferably the right-hand end in each case, and a core-tube c closed at both ends, two helical fins d,.e being arranged within the annular space between the tubes b, c to' provide flow and return passages for the circulation of cooling water, and the space between the tubes a, b locating two groups of helical fins constituting passages f, g, separated by partitions h, k, for the oil to be cooled. The left-hand ends of the fins d, e and partitions h, k are extended at m, l respectively to divide the open ends of the two annular spaces between the tubes a, b, c each into two parts, the exchanger being completed by providing these open ends with cover plates (not shown), having oil and water inlet and outlet connections. The fins d, e may each be replaced by groups, such as f, g, and heat exchangers comprising more than two concentric tubes, with or without the core-tube c, may be provided with fins in each annular space formed thereby. Specification 314,664, [Class 64 (iii)], is referred to.
