Abstract

587,243. Cultivators. CLEMENTS, B. W. July 13, 1944, No. 13446. [Class 6 (i)] In a cultivator pivoted on the front of a tractor and comprising a transverse bar 80 to which are attached tool carriers 11 carrying tools 19 working between growing crops and which is adapted to be raised and lowered by the driver, the tool carriers are resiliently mounted by means of blade springs 14. The tool carrier comprises two bars between which are clamped the spring 14 and brackets supporting detachable bars 18 carrying the tools 19. A chain 21 prevents excessive downward flexing of the springs. The bar 80 is pivotally mounted on the tractor by means of levers 7 and carries levers 23. Tools are also carried behind the tractor wheels on a transverse bar 31A pivotally mounted by means of bearers 30. The lever 23 and the bearer 30 are both connected to a shaft 27 by means of links 24 and levers 26 and a chain 29 and lever 28 respectively. The hoisting gear comprises a driver-operated ratchet-controlled hand winding gear 35 which, to raise the tools, is adapted to wind in a cable 39 connected to one of the levers 26 and simultaneously pay out the other end of the cable which is connected to a lever 40 mounted on the shaft 27.
