Abstract

The process of Specification 556,718 is modified by the employment of solutions of soluble alginates other than sodium alginate, e.g. of triethanolamine alginate and potassium alginate, or of coagulant solutions other than a solution of glucose and calcium chloride or alum, e.g. solutions of other calcium, barium and aluminium salts generally, in which solutions there may, if desired, be dissolved malt or glycerol, or emulsified an oil such as olive, coconut, fish or paraffin oil. A sugar such as maltose, lactose, levulose, sorbitol, mannitol or honey, instead of glucose and sucrose, may be dissolved in the solution of soluble alginate.
