Abstract

556,718. Films. PESCHARDT, W. J. S. April 15, 1942, No. 4956. [Class 2 (ii)] [Also in Groups V and VI] As a hardening bath for making films from a solution of sodium alginate, use is made of a solution of calcium chlorate or alum containing glucose or invert sugar. The alginate solution may contain glucose, glue, gelatine, agaragar, sugar syrup or the mixed alkyl ethers of cellulose described in Specification 469,391. The films may be made by filling pans or covering textile or other supports with the alginate solution and immersing in the hardening bath, the material being afterwards stripped from the support. The films are impervious to water or gases and may be made up into personal protective coverings.
