[Class 61 (iii)] [Also in Group XIX] A torque indicating wrench with the indicating pointer &c. scale &c. carried respectively by the springy operating lever and an arm projecting from the head, has the indicating point located at a substantial distance from the juncture of the springy lever and the rigid-handle in the direction of the work-engaging head, whereby the scale readings correspond exactly with the torque on the head regardless of the manner of gripping the handle. The work-engaging head 42 and the operating handle 40 are attached at opposite ends of the spring bar 41, the handle extending inwards considerably beyond its point of attachment to the bar. The lower end of the handle 40 carries a dial gauge 47, the operating mechanism of which is operated by a lug 50 formed on the free end of the gauge operating arm 45 -acting on the slide member 51. The gauge mechanism and lug 50 are so located on the handle 40 and arm 45 that the point of engagement between the lug 50 and the slide 51 is situated between the axis of the work-engaging head 42 and the juncture of the spring bar 41 with the rigid handle 40 and at a distance from the latter juncture equal to aw (3a-2aw)/6a-3aw, where aw is the length of the flexible spring bar 41 from its juncture with the work-engaging head to its juncture with the rigid handle and a is the horizontal dimension along the longitudinal centre line of the Spring bar 41 from the juncture of the spring bar with the rigid handle to the axis D of rotation of the work-engaging head.
