[Class 20 (iii)] A sliding door for an aircraft hangar or the like is composed of a rectangular metal framework of upright and horizontal members, whose depth perpendicular to the face of the door is greater than their dimensions in the plane of the door face, and door-height sheet metal panels of constant vee or arch-shaped horizontal crosssection, having rearwardly extending flanges along their vertical edges, for securing adjacent panels together, the panels being wholly contained within the bounds of the frame members. As shown, the framework is formed by horizontal channel section members 12, 13, with their channels downwardly disposed and vertical channel section members 10, 11, with their channels facing inwards towards one another. The central plates 16 are of V-section and are secured by their flanges 17 to intermediate T-section girders 18, the flanges of the girders 18 being secured to the horizontal members 12, 13 by the gusset plates 24. The end plates 20, 21 are formed with inclined portions 20a, 21a provided with end flanges 17, and flat portions 20b, 21b, having no flanges, but securable directly to the outer flanges of the vertical members 10, 11. A number of stringers 22 are secured to the inner flanges of the members 10, 11 and to the flanges of the girders 18. The flat outer wing 20b may house the door-operating machinery, comprising a motor-driven wheel running on a grooved track. Other compartments may be formed to house tools.
