Abstract

583,735. Windows; ventilators. AUSTER, Ltd., and SMALL, W. W. Nov. 24, 1944, No. 23428. [Classes 20 (iii)] and 137] A window or panel assembly comprises a non-slidable panel and a slidable panel lying flush with the other panel when closed, a pin or projection on one panel engaging a cam slot or groove in the other or in a part carried by it so as to cause the non-slidable panel to tilt or be displaced transversely to allow the slidable panel to pass over or behind it. The upper part of an omnibus window 1 comprises three glazed panels mounted between bars 2, 3, the middle panel 4 being non-slidable but transversely movable and the outer panels 5, 6 capable of sliding over it, but lying flush with it when closed. The three panels are interconnected at their lower edges by the engagement of pins 16, 17 at the inner corners of the outer panels within slots 10, 11, formed in the underside of a bar 9 secured to panel 4, which is positioned in relation to the main frame by the engagement of an upstanding fixed stud 13 in a transverse slot 12 at the middle of bar 9. The upper edge of panel 4 is yieldingly pressed by a blade spring 21 against bar 2, so that when, e.g., panel 6 is moved inwardly by handle 29 and pin 17 in first travelling along an inclined portion 11a of slot 11 causes the panel 4 to tilt, the inclined face 27a of the vertical edge of panel 6 moves over the middle panel forcing its top edge outwardly against the spring. If. the other end panel is also moved panel 4 assumes a laterally displaced position parallel to the other two. The spring may be replaced by pins and slots at the upper edges of the panels or the middle panel may be mounted on parallel motion links. A channel casing 37 enclosing the spring has at each end a number of slots 32 and louvres 33, holes 35, 36 also being provided in the top flange of the panel and bar 2 so that air is extracted from the interior during motion of the vehicle.
