Abstract

[Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (iv)] In a chair the edges of the back support a which is made from a sheet of flexible material are inserted in a rigid-channel section metal strip b to retain the curved form. It is preferred to attach the metal edging while the article is flat and subsequently'bend to shape and that the bottom of the back be provided with an additional metal strip with a flange to rest on the seat frame e to which it is riveted. The seat and back squabs are supported on a resilient wire layer which may take the form of rods f or diamond-shaped wire mesh k suspended from the metal edging by helical springs g and i the upholstery of the back support being curved. In a modification a flat metal strip riveted to the back support a may be substituted for the channel-section strip b.
