Abstract

581,070. Printing-machines. DORIN A. Nov. 2, 1944, No. 21465. [Class 100 (ii)] Engraved-plate printing; inking-apparatus; stopping arrangements. A relief stamping and printing machine comprises a vertical shaft 11, Figs. 2 and 3, carrying a radial arm 12 to which a die 13 is fixed face downwards, the shaft 11 being oscillated at each cycle of operation so as to carry the die from the printing position over an inking- device 20 and a wiping- device 24 and back to the printing position where an impression plate 22 is reciprocated vertically and in suitable phase relation to the movement of the shaft so as to force the paper or other material against the die. Fig. 2 shows the angular setting of the units, the impression and inking devices being 165‹ apart, and the wiping device and a device 25 for advancing a wiping-band being diametrically opposite or on a line parallel to a diameter. The shaft 11 is driven by an hydraulicallyoperated vane 15, and the plate 22 is actuated by an hydraulic piston 23, the upward thrust of which is taken by a crossbar 33 provided with a bevelled surface 35 to engage a bevel on the arm 12. The inking-apparatus comprises an inking- roller 63, Fig. 6, mounted in a frame 65 pivoted about the axis of a duct-roller 61 and pressed against the die by a spring 66 encircling a rod 73 operated to raise and lower the frame 65 by a cam-actuated lever. An ink-transfer roller 62 is mounted in a frame 69 pivoted about the axis of the roller 63 and connected by a spring 71 to the frame 65, the pressure of the roller 62 on the roller 61 being varied by means of a screw 70. The frame 69 also carries spring-pressed scrapers 74 pivoted about shafts 76 eccentrically mounted to vary the scraping pressure. The wiping-device comprises a paper or textile band 100, Fig. 8, passing over a pad 53, which can be rocked about a pivot 54 to bring either of two surfaces a and b into use. The band may be wound on to a take-up roller or may be endless, passing through a tank 101 of cleansing fluid and then past an electric drier 102. The take-up roller is rotated intermittently from a shaft 26, Fig. 2, operated by a pawl 28 rocked by a cam 32 on the arm 12. Sheets are fed from a table to printing position and held there, and are subsequently delivered by suction pads on a pair of oscillating arms. A motor 84, Fig. 3, drives a compressor 83 direct and, through a gearbox 81, a shaft 85 driving the inking-rollers by a chain and carrying cams 87 for raising and lowering the inking and wiping mechanisms. Cams 95 controlling the fluid to the vane 15 and piston 23, and a gear driving a shaft from which the sheet-feed arms and sheet-clamps are operated, are driven from the shaft 85 through a coupling 93 controlled by a handle 56. The handle may be positioned so that (1) the motor, pump and inking-devices only are in operation, (2) the shaft 11 and impression plunger 21 are operated without vertical movement of the inking and wiping devices, and (3) for complete operation of the machine.
