580,739. Knitting-machines. DUBIED & CIE., SOC. ANON., E. July 13, 1943, No. 11385. Convention date, July 6, 1942. [Class 74 (ii)] A cylinder-and-dial machine in which each of the needles or needle jacks is provided with a single butt is provided with a pair of cams spaced circumferentially around the machine for actuating the needles in each needle-bed, and patterning means are associated with each such cam for selecting the needles or jacks for,operation by the cam. Further selecting means are provided for operating the needles to enable changes in the rib formation to be obtained. Jacks 12 ... 14 are provided beneath the cylinder needles 11 and are actuated for knitting by two sets of cams 2, 3, 2', 3<1>. Pattern bands 24, 24' are arranged to select the needle jacks, before the needles reach each set of knitting cams, and in addition cams 4, 5, 4<1>, 5' are arranged to engage and press inwardly the jacks of selected needles, which may be of different lengths and have recesses opposite one of the cams, so that those needles are not operated for transferring their loops to needles in the dial. To reduce the length of the needle cylinder, recesses 15, 16 in the needle cylinder and jacks may be provided.
