Abstract

434,272. Knitting-machines. BOOTON, W. E., Ross Works, Wanlip Street, Leicester, MILLS, R. K., 3, Edwards Lane, Sherwood, and HOSIERY DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., 30, Park Row, both in Nottingham. Jan. 24, 1934, No. 2479. [Class 74 (ii)] Relates to the production of openwork fashioning or webbs by transfer of needle loops. The invention is described as applied to a circular machine with independent latch needles. Each transfer instrument 10 consists of a forwardly directed forked or hollow hook 13 of a span sufficient to receive the head of a needle. The instruments 10 may be mounted to slide in a tricked upper bed 31 divided into sections for independent shogging. This bed may surround the upper needle bed 21 of a superposed-cylinder machine. Each instrument has a number of outer butts and an inner notch 34 which normally rests on the point 33 of a jack 32 mounted in the same tricks. These jacks push the devices 10 outwards clear of the track of the needles, when it is desired to pass needles from one cylinder to the other. The jacks are driven by a rotating cam box 35 while the devices 10 are selected and moved by a rotary battery of cams 37. A battery of cams 73 in the lower cylinder act on the butts of jacks 38 disposed below sliders 25 to cause needles to co-operate with the devices 10 in the production of transfer stitches. Each section of the bed 31 is attached to a ring 45A .. 45D and is shogged when the appropriate cam 50 on a drum 48 raises a feeler 51 connected to a shogging pawl 47. The shogging may be effected by other means such as epicyclic gearing. When applied to bearded-needle machines the devices 10 may act as pressers. Specifications 275,614, 329,098, 330,041, [all in Class 74 (ii)], and 376,837 are referred to.
