[Class 39 (i)] In a modification of the triggered spark-gap shown in Fig. 4 of the parent Specification, the insulator between the trigger electrode and the anode fits the trigger electrode only loosely and is made of material having a dielectric constant several times that of glass, preferably a ceramic material containing rutile. This produces a higher stressing of the gap between the insulator and the trigger electrode and a consequently more reliable production of corona to irradiate the gap between the trigger electrode and the main anode. The invention may be combined with the alternative arrangement shown in Specification 580,533.
