Abstract
579,494. Belt fastenings. YATES. C. H., and SOUTHGATE, A. E. May 3, 1944, No. 8355. [Class 80 (i)] Each end of the belt has secured thereto a channel plate 1 the end plate 2 of which is concave outwards and has a number of equally spaced slots to receive parallel eyes 5 formed from a continuous wire, a common hinge-pin being passed through the intermeshed eyes. The wire is bent to form one U-shaped eye 5, is then continued to form a connecting bar 6 at right angles to a leg of the U for a distance equal to the pitch of the slots 4, another parallel eye is then formed and a further bar 6 on the other side and so on producing two sets of connecting bars 6, one set on each side. The eyes are pushed through slots 4, the bars 6 abutting the inner surface of the plate 2. The concavity 3 prevents the sets of bars 6 from approaching one another and therefore prevents the eyes closing together. After inserting the eyes a series of prongs 7 are stamped out of one or both walls 1 and turned inwards, thereby preventing the eyes from being pushed back.
