Abstract

578,359. Handle-bars. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and MACCABE, D. A. Nov. 24, 1944, No. 23408. [Class 136 (iii)] A handle-bar for a cycle comprises two tubular members 15 having outer ends, of any desired shape, substantially perpendicular to depending portions which fit into longitudinal slots in a clip member 1 secured to the top of the usual steering stem 3, the slots being open at one end and complementary in shape to the tubular members which are secured in position by a split clamp 7 fitted over the clip and associated with friction clamping means. The clip 1 has a circular base so that it may be fitted into the tubular part of the steering stem 3, where it is secured by brazing. Two diametrically opposed longitudinal slots are formed in this upper portion, open at their upper ends and of arcuate cross-section so as to form in conjunction with the split clamp 7, vertical recesses to receive.the tubular members 15. A dust-excluding cover 9 is fitted over the upper surface of the clamp. The vertical depending portions of the handle-bar are of smaller diameter than the end portions and are arranged to pass through circular holes in the dust-excluding cover into the recesses and, after being adjusted to the desired angle, are secured therein by tightening the bolt 17 in the split clamp.
