Abstract

578,289. Clutches. BREEZE, C. A. April 25, 1944, No. 7656. [Class 80 (ii)] A substantially inflexible friction plate for multi-plate clutches running in oil is formed with corrugations or undulations so that when the clutch is disengaged the relative motion between the driving and driven plates sets up a pressure tending to separate the plates and thus eliminate or reduce "drag." In the form shown in Fig. 1 the plate 2 is pressed into a corrugated shape and co-operates with two flat plates 1 and 3. In Fig. 3, radial depressions 7 are formed on both sides of the plate. Grooves, recesses, or protruberanees of any suitable form may be utilised.
