Cooling of a motor-vehicle friction clutch, in which a spring-biased presser plate 27 engages a driven plate 31 against an engine flywheel 15, is effected by constructing the flywheel in three parts 12, 15, 34 to form a annular gap 17 corresponding approximately in radial depth to the friction facings of the driven plate, thereby increasing the cooling surface area of the flywheel. The cooling effect may be farther increased by forming the back face of the flywheel section 15 with heat dissipating ribs and an air impeller 21 serves to increase the flow of air over the cooling surfaces and casing in which the clutch assembly is mounted.
