Abstract

578,237. Sluice valves. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and GIBSON, J. H. April 6. 1944, No. 6436. Addition to 51 7,619. [Class 135] In the parallel slide valve claimed in the parent Specification, the auxiliary valve means is constituted by a valve face 12 at the end of one of the telescopically engaging annular guides 5, 6 co-operating with a valve seating 13 formed on the other slide. The chamber 26 between the slides 2, 3 communicates with one side of the valve through ports 37 in the inner guide 6 and thence through ports 9 in the slide 2. Detachable seatings 14, 15 are retained by screwed rings 32. The ports 9 and holes 38 formed in the guide 6 facilitate the lapping of the main closure faces by suitable tools. An internal recess 7 is formed at the end of the guide 5 adjacent the valve face 12. The form shown in Fig. 1 is suitable as a main valve but another form suitable as a byepass valve for a main parallel slide valve is described. In this the outer guide 5 is the same diameter as its slide 2 which has one central hole 9 only.
