Abstract
577,531. Projectiles and bombs; detonators. FARRANT, R. H., SMITH, J. R., and TUCK, J. L. Oct. 30. 1942, No. 15286. [Class 9 (i)] The fuze h of a " hollow-charge " projectile or bomb is also constructed on the hollow-charge principle, as shown at k, Fig. 2, so as to transmit with extreme rapidity a detonating " jet " to the tetryl pellets b at the base of the main H.E. charge c of the missile. The hollow of the charge c is lined with a metal liner d leading to an axial passage d<1> for the passage of the jet, and the fuze hollow k is also metal-lined. In the fuze shown, l is a sleeve containing lead azide and m a filling of tetryl. Enemy unexploded bombs may be exploded by a " hollowcharge " detonator externally applied to the casing thereof and fired from a distance.
