Abstract
573,730. Wheel tyres. TECALEMIT, Ltd., and LE CLAIR, C. C. S. Sept. 14, 1942, No. 12967. [Class 144 (i)] Tyres for road vehicle wheels, particularly for the vehicle described in Specification 573,726 comprise two or more separate blocks 16 of wood or other hard-wearing material shaped to be retained by sloping parts 7, 10 of rim flanges 5, 8, at least one of the flanges being transversely adjustable or formed with a gap closed by a detachable plate to give access for the insertion of the blocks. The flange 5 is welded to a shell 2 of the wheel body and to the flange 3 of a central T -ring 4. The other flange 8 has slots 11 to fit over studs 12 screwed and welded to the shell 1 and is clamped in position by nuts 13. The tyre blocks are additionally secured by transverse bolts 21 passing through enlarged holes in the blocks permitting radial movement of the blocks under load. The blocks may rest on a continuous band 20 of rubber or other resilient material or may be fitted with individual base pads, and, if of wood, are arranged with the grain end on to the ground. A continuous steel hoop tread, or separate steel plate treads may be provided.
