Abstract
180. Basch. R., and Basch, S. Jan. 4. Non-metallic elastic bodies and cores; tread bands, projections, and surfaces.-The tyre body consists of blocks of india-rubber c, Figs. 1 and 5, vulcanized or otherwise secured between two bands .of rubbered canvas a, b. The bands project laterally, and are secured to the rim by radial screws. The blocks may be inclined and formed with projections u, Fig. 8, to cause transverse cooling air currents. One or more india-rubber tread portions n, Fig. 2, may be secured to the outer band, and metal studs m, Figs. 6 and 7, on a plate m<1> may project through apertures in the rubber. 'The tread members may consist of metal grids g, through which project rubber studs on a similar backing ; or they may consist of metal plates with diamond-shaped or other projections, secured at their lateral flanges by screws, and formed with depending lugs c<1> spaced from lateral abutment-plates n, Fig. 5, secured to the felloe.
