Abstract

573,601. Optical-projection apparatus. MILES, G. H. Aug. 23, 1943, No. 13709. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIII] The viewing system of an apparatus as described in Specification 431,049 for simulating travel on the surface of or above the level of the ground is modified in various ways. As shown in Fig. 1, the image of a source of light is brought to a focus by a lens 1 on to a mirror 2 situated at or near the surface of a model land scape to form the image on a screen 3. Two mirrors situated close together may be used, the rays from each being differently coloured, polarized, or projected alternately for stereoscopic viewing by known means. In a modification, Fig. 3, a system of mirrors and lenses 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 is used to obtain a view of the model scene such as would be obtained by a person on the same scale as the model. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the stereoscopic effect may be enhanced by interposing a wedge, silvered on one side and half silvered on the other, before the lens 9. In another modification, Fig..6 (not shown), a mirror silvered on one side and half silvered on the other reflects two images on to a spherical mirror, the image in which is viewed directly.
