Abstract

385,623. Stereoscopic photography. SAVAGE, L. F., 20, Old Compton Street, London. March 31, 1931, No. 9792. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (i).] An optical system for the production of stereoscopic photographs &c. by projecting the separare view point images in opposite directions on a common focal plane which contains the axis of binocular vision, comprises two objectives and an arrangement of reflectors giving, in the case of one objective, a single reflection, and in the case of the other objective, two reflections to secure correct disposition of the image, means being provided to compensate the difference between the lengths of path of the two beams resulting from the extra reflection of one of them. In the Figure, the rays passing through the objective a undergo a single reflection by the prism b while those from the objective a<1> undergo two reflections by the prism c to give correctly disposed images in the focal plane d. The extra ray path through the prism c is compensated by extending the prism b to form a block b<1>, and the difference between the image sizes due to the objective a being nearer the object plane is compensated by placing a block e of glass &c. in front of the objective a<1>. Alternatively either of the above-mentioned compensations may be effected by using dissimilar objectives or by adding components to one of two similar objectives. The objectives may be between the reflectors and the focal plane. The effective separation of the view points may be varied by placing in front of the objectives &c. rhomboidal prisms or other reflectors producing lateral displacement of the rays. Specification 385,624 is referred to.
