Abstract
572,927. Automatic firearms. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., FAULKNER, H. A., and WACKROW, R. D. May 21, 1942, No. 6908. [Class 119] A transverse rotary locking-pin 3 for the barrel 1 of a gas-operated automatic gun has flats 6 out therein which, in the locking position, Fig. 1, lie above the top edges of the side-bars of the piston-extension 7. The pin can only be rotated to free the barrel when the breech is fully open and the piston held rearwards by engagement between the sear 12 and bent 11. In this cocked position, notches 9 in the sidebars are situated below the pin 3. Unlocking rotation of the pin 3 causes the flats 6 to engage the ends 10 of the notches 9, as shown in Fig. 3, and to retract the piston assembly slightly beyond the cocked position, thus holding the bent out of contact with the sear and leaving the trigger 13 inoperative.
