Abstract

507,158. Automatic guns. BIRKIGT, M. Dec. 9, 1937. No. 34135. Convention date, June 21. [Classes 92 (ii) and 119] [Also in Group XXIV] , . A moving member which is under the action of a powerful force and which has to be locked, e.g. the breech-block 1 of an automatic firearm, has the locking catch positively moved into full engagement with a stop on the member to be locked during the final part of the movement of the member to locked position. The catch 3 is pivoted at o in a slide 5 which is permitted a short movement against the resistance of a stiff spring 6 and a buffer pad 8. At the commence - ment of the return movement of the breechblock 1 after a discharge, the catch rides in a groove 1<1> until engaged by the end face 4 of the groove, whereupon the catch and slide 5 make a short movement which causes a stationary roller 11 to engage a ramp 3<2> on the catch and urge the catch into full engagement with the face 4. The spring 6 then returns the slide against the action of the recoil spring 2, to free the catch from the roller 11, ready for operation by the rod 10. The operative face of the catch is an arc with the pivot o as centre.
