Abstract

571,989. Airscrew spinners. FEWSTER, T. H. Jan. 19, 1944, No. 998. [Class 114] In a variable-pitch propeller each blade B traverses a closely fitting circular diaphragm C rotatably carried by a spinner A so as to lie in and continue the surface thereof, the diaphragm being sufficiently flexible to allow it to conform to the surface of the spinner at all pitch adjustments of the blade. The peripheral edge of the diaphragm may be carried by one or two retaining rings attached to the spinner, or by clips D attached to or formed integrally with the diaphragm. The clips may carry small rollers. The underside of the diaphragm may be engaged by locating pieces E secured'to the spinner in the spaces not swept by the blade, and by a cylindrical boss F on the blade. The diaphragm may be made in two superposed sections.
