Abstract
571,336. Hydraulic transmission of power. LUCIEN, R. March 24, 1943, No. 4799. [Class 69 (ii)] In a remote-control system, e.g. for operating hydraulically undercarriages &c. in aircraft, of the kind in which motor devices 11 are each operated from an accumulator 12 under control of valves 18, 19 operated hydraulically from a remote point, the valve-actuating mechanism also controls locking devices for one or both ends of movement of the jack. As shown, valves 18, 19, controlling the connection of the respective ends of the motor 11 to accumulator pressure and exhaust, are actuated by fluid pressure controlled by manually-actuated valves 41, 42 at a remote point. The valve-actuating cylinders 35 are also connected to locking cylinders 55, 56 to withdraw the respective locking bolt before the motor operates. Valves 18, 19 each comprise a lift valve 24 having a ported hollow stem 23, the end of which is closed to cut off the connection to the exhaust reservoir when a tappet 34 is moved by the pressure piston 36 to open the lift valve and thereby connect the motor cylinder end to the accumulator. Only those pipes connecting the accumulator to the motor are of large size, small diameter piping being used for the connections to the control station and supply pump 16.
