Abstract

570,238. Folding tables, &c. HOWE, H. April 22, 1943. Convention date, April 24, 1942, No. 6483. [Class 52 (iii)] A folding table, seat, ironing board, &c., comprises a top in hinged parts 10, 11 legs 14, 14<1>, adapted to fold flat towards the hinges 12 of the top, and link members 23, 231 each connected to one leg and to the opposite part of the top to cause the legs to move as the top portions are moved in both opening and closing actions. The structure folds into a flat case-like body as shown in Fig. 4, and a coil handle 28 is projected outwards when the structure is being folded. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the legs are each pivoted on a cross rod 17 slidable in guides 18 and one end of 'a link 23 is also pivoted to the cross rod, the other end of the link being pivoted to a bracket 25 carried by a cross rail 13 of the hinged top and located nearer the top surface than the hinges 12 so that the link has a locking action when the legs are erected. In the closing movement the cross rod 17 yields slightly at first until the bracket 25 gets below the level of the hinge 12. Pivoted leg stays 19 are provided. In one modification the legs are pivoted at the top to a link pivoted to the top surface, and in another form the leg is pivoted to the top on a fixed bar and a jointed stay is provided, actuated by connection to the link 23. In a further form, Fig 8, the leg is in two hinged parts 44a, 44b, and the link 23 is connected to the pivot 45 of the leg parts. A folding frame 53, 57, Fig. 9, to serve as a seat back, may be erected above the top or be closed to He flush therewith as the structure is opened and closed.
