Abstract
570,124. Pot sleepers; tie-bars. MILLS, Ltd., EXECUTORS OF J., and MACBETH, A. Sept. 18, 1943, No. 15365. [Class 104 (ii)] A wooden tie-bar is secured within recessed seats of plate or pot sleepers. The seat may open upwardly, downwardly or inwardly and the tie-bar may be level with, above or below the ballast. The tie-bar may be rectangular or taper upwards or downwards. In Fig. 1, the plate sleeper 31 has a seat 34 for the tie-bar 35 which is clamped by a bolt 36 and plate 38. The plate may have lugs engaging notches in the seat which may have corrugations or ribs on its side walls to bite into the tie-bars, the seats also having drainage holes. The seat may be V-shaped, Fig. 17, and the plate 38 of angle section. The tie-bar may be secured by steel keys 44, Fig. 26, which engage a plate 38 having corrugations to bite into the tie-bar, or a bolt 36, Fig. 29, may be the only securing means, the bolt being vertical or horizontal.
