Abstract

570,018.. Work-holders; indexing. POWELL, C. B., and WHALE, C. V. Sept. 24, 1943, No. 15677. [Class 83 (iii)] An indexable work-holder for milling, slotting, &c. machines consists of a base A carrying a central non-rotatable stud K on which a table D can be indexed. An index plunger S on a hand lever Q pivoted to a lug P in the base is pressed by a spring R to engage any one of the equally spaced holes N passing completely through the table, the upper ends of the holes being closed by short plugs V to exclude swarf &c. If any of the indexing stations are not required, the corresponding plug V is replaced by a longer plug to prevent entry of the plunger S at that station and the short plug is placed in one of the series of holes O. The table D is clamped in indexed position by a nut on a hand lever Z engaging a screw thread on the lower end of the stud K.
