Abstract

837,592. Lathe details. HAHN, O., and HAHN, E., [trading as INDEX-WERKE KOMMANDIT-GESSELLSCHAFT HAHN & TESSKY]. March 28, 1956 [March 28, 1955], No. 9700/56. Class 83 (3). A tool bit 21, Fig. 4, such as a form tool, is secured in a transverse slot 32 in a tool-carrying member 19 by a claw 30 and screws 31. The tool-carrying member is provided with a T- groove 28 at the rear and is vertically adjustable along guides on a body member 18. A lug 42, Fig. 2, on the tool-carrying member carries a setting screw 43 which co-operates with a stop plate 45 secured to the body member. A clamping bolt 37, Fig. 4, passes through the body member and has a T-head 38 which secures the tool-carrying member in adjusted position when a nut 41 is tightened. The toolcarrying member is shown in Figs. 2 and 4 with the tool inverted, which is the arrangement used for the front cross-slide of an automatic lathe when the work 20 rotates clockwise, Fig. 2. When.the tool holder is used on the near crossslide the tool-carrying member is turned upside down, and the top plate 45 is secured to the other side of the body to co-operate with the stop-screw as shown in Fig. 3. The body member is secured to a base plate 15 so as to be adjustable in a direction parallel to the work axis. A T-slot 23 in the base plate carries a T-headed bolt 51 with an elongated flat portion 50 fitting the groove. The bolt passes up through a clearance slot in the clamping bolt 37, and the body is clamped to the plate by tightening a nut 53. A fine-adjustment device 22, Figs. 2 and 3, is provided for the body member. Screws 54, Fig. 4, bear against the ends of the elongated flat portion 50 of the bolt 51 to prevent it rotating during tightening of the nut 53.
