Abstract

569,304. Gun cartridges. NORTHOVER, H. R. Oct. 21, 1940, No. 15498. [class 9 (i)] A cartridge for bomb throwers or mortars comprises one or more wads 6 of fibre, wood pulp or the like, the rear of the wad or wadassembly having a recess to hold the container 8, 9 for the propellant and the front of the wad being provided with a sponge-rubber or like cushion member bearing against the bomb to be projected and forming a gas-tight joint with the barrel. A flat-obturator ring 11 is attached to the rearmost wad 6, the whole assembly being discharged from the gun on firing. The container:8, 9 is preferably formed of celluloid in two telescoping parts.
