Abstract

569,145. Fluid-pressure servomotorcontrol systems. LIVERPOOL BORAX CO., Ltd., BANNISTER, H. W., and PARKER, E. B. Aug. 26, 1943, No. 13901. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVIII] For cleaning a pipe system, particularly for conveying liquids having solids in suspension, a valve controlling the supply of flushing liquid to the system is automatically operated on cessation of flow of liquid in the system. Means for cutting off the flushing liquid auto - matically after a predetermined time are provided. A flow detector 2 may be a vane within the pipe-line actuating a switch of the kind known under the Registered Trade Mark " Mercoid " in the circuit of a motor 8 operating a valve in the fiushing liquid supply pipe 4, connected through a check valve 6 to the pipe-line. The timing device may comprise a float 10 in a chamber 11 which drains at a slower rate than it is supplied from the branch 12 of the supply pipe 4, the float actuating a switch 9 to cause the motor to close the valve. The operating time is controlled by adjusting a valve 13. In another arrangement, an electromagnetic valve is energized in response to the flow-detector, at the same time starting a small motor geared to a cam adapted to break the valve circuit and close the valve when desired. In a further arrangement, the flow-detector controls the admission of compressed air to a diaphragm-operated supply valve and the timing device comprises a meter in the supply pipe arranged to reduce the pressure acting on the diaphragm after a given quantity of flushing liquid has been discharged into the pipe-line.
