[Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The delivery of pressure liquid from a series of continuously running pumps to the cylinder of a press &c. is controlled by providing for each pump an unloading valve closed by a hydraulic piston or ram against a spring &c. load, and short-circuiting the pump when open, and operating these valves by a pilot pump normally delivering to exhaust, but caused by a control valve to deliver pressure liquid to operate the valve. Two control valves F, G may be used in series, the valve F being actuated by hand to close, in sequence, ports 1 ... 6 leading from the valves 1 ... 6 of the main pumps A, disposed in pairs operated by motors B, to an exhaust line H. This line may be controlled by a valve K allowing all the pumps to be loaded together. The valve G is automatically operated by the delivery from the main pumps under the control of an automatic valve J which may be that described in Specification 566,240. When the pipe-line la of the control valve 1 is closed to exhaust, the pilot pump. E delivers through a pipe 7 and a pipe 27, Fig. 2, to act on a ram 21 and raise the control valve 25 to the position shown, wherein it connects the pump supply 22 to the press &c. inlet connection 23 and cuts off the normally open outlet 24 to exhaust. In this position, the pilot pump discharges through a pipe 29 leading to control valve 2 and a pipe 9 leading to pipe-line 2a. If the line 2a is also closed to exhaust, control valve 2 is operated to load its pump and the exhaust therefrom passes to control valve 3 or pipe 3a, and so on ; the control valve 6 delivers only to exhaust.
