Abstract

567,753. Angular bending. DRAPER, F. C. Sept. 4, 1942, No. 12532. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXIX] Fillings.-To avoid variations in the pressure of the liquid loading in a pipe T during bending thereof, this is connected by tubing to an accumulator AC having a relatively large volume. A valve HV is operated, at first, to connect the pipe to an oil supply tank OT, via tubing 1 and high-pressure hose PH, to fill it. The valve is then shut, a closure N2 applied to the upper end of the pipe, the valve moved to connect the pipe to the accumulator via tubing 4 and the bend made. The valve is again closed and the bent pipe T disconnected and emptied into a sump SU. Oil pressure is maintained in the accumulator by a pump OP connected via a filter OF to the tank OT and driven by a motor M which is controlled by a start and stop hand-operated switch 11 and a stop hand-operated switch 13. The weighted lever L of the accumulator may be connected to automatic start and stop switches, or operate a slide s, which render the pump ineffective when the lever reaches a certain height. The device may be used when bending a thin walled pipe of brass or of the alloy sold under, the Registered Trade Mark " Tungum " &c. around a forming die, e.g. as described in Specification 567,743, or by a die moving in a straight path. The valve HV is operated by a handle HL, shown in its neutral position in Fig. 4, which can be moved to the right to admit low pressure oil from the tube 1 past ball LP to a chamber C connected to the hose PH or to the left to admit high pressure oil from the tube 4 to the same chamber by pushing a ball HP off its seat by a pin hp and strap S.
